Benefits Available for Aging Veterans and Their Families in Elkton

Todd County, which is home to the city of Elkton, has around 632 veterans residing there, a number that equals around 7% of the area’s population. A large portion of these individuals served in the Vietnam War or the Gulf War and have begun to reach their golden years. The benefits these individuals may be able to seek will depend on their current health status, service records, and income levels.

VA bureaucracy can be a tricky thing to understand and navigate. Thankfully, the team at Collins Law, PLLC, has the experience necessary to assist you and your loved ones. There are a number of benefits and programs aimed at improving the quality of life for aging veterans that you may be eligible for. These benefits include:

  • Long-term care assistance. In Kentucky, when a veteran can no longer live on their own, they may qualify for benefits regarding a community or VA-specific nursing home facility. While the average monthly costs for assisted living in America are around $5,030 a month, veterans’ benefits may be available to help address these costs and provide veterans with the care and services they need.
  • Aid and attendance. Aid & Attendance benefits, or A&A, are enhanced pension benefits that can help provide financial assistance for veterans who are bedridden, unable to attend to the routines of daily living, or in need of nursing home care or in-home care. These benefits help by providing more money each month in order to offset certain costs of long-term care.
  • Medical foster care. For veterans, medical foster care providers provide an alternative route for military vets who are in need of temporary or limited assistance with their medical treatment. As of 2025, 707 veterans across the United States were making use of the Medical Foster Home Program.
  • Shared decision-making assistance. Veterans Affairs, or VA, provides additional support for veterans when it comes to making decisions about how to treat an illness or injury, or in other cases where end-of-life issues need to be addressed.
  • Caregiver respite services. In certain cases, family members who provide care to a veteran can also receive support from the VA. These services can include necessary respite services and other programs that work to recognize the invaluable services provided by these caregivers and loved ones.
  • Adult daycare. There are hundreds of veterans across the U.S. who have the ability to live independently but are still able to take advantage of daycare services that offer assistance with certain daily life activities. These services can also help homebound veterans with necessary socialization opportunities.

At Collins Law, PLLC, we are here to educate and guide you through the qualification process involved in all veterans’ benefits and are passionate about securing the assistance that you or a loved one requires.
